How a transportation obsession became a brand.
"I didn't set out to build a brand. I set out to understand why a 100-year-old steam locomotive still runs on time in Tamil Nadu — and everything else followed."
The Dry Clutch started as a personal blog in 2023 — a place to write about trains, bikes, and the logistical machinery that keeps India moving. The name comes from motorcycle engineering: a dry clutch runs without oil, exposed and loud. It's mechanical honesty. That felt right for a project built on obsessive, unfiltered coverage of transportation.
What began as writing quickly expanded. Video essays on YouTube. A growing community of readers who cared about Indian railways as much as I did. And then, unexpectedly, a business: mobile car wash and detailing services, born from the same attention to detail that drove the journalism. Today, The Dry Clutch is both — a media platform and an auto care operation, run by the same philosophy: do the work properly, and talk about it honestly.
In motorcycle engineering, a dry clutch operates without an oil bath — it's exposed, mechanical, and unmistakably loud. You can hear it from across the street. Ducati made it famous. It's not the refined choice. It's the honest one.
That's the ethos here. No polish over substance. No sponsored takes disguised as journalism. No detailing shortcuts hidden under a wax coat. Everything we do — whether it's a 3,000-word essay on the Konkan Railway or a ₹499 car wash — is done with the same unfiltered commitment to getting it right.
